Manchester City went down 4-2 in the clash against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday (January 22). PSG came from 0-2 behind to hand a shock loss to the City and the fans aren’t one bit pleased with the team's performance. Rico Lewis, in particular, who came in as a substitute received massive criticism for not making an impact in the 45 minutes he was in the middle.

Both teams were desperate for a win in the Champions League. City was sitting in the final qualification berth while PSG were in the exit zone. Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland put Manchester City ahead 2-0 with goals in the 50th and 53 minutes, respectively. However, the joy was shortlived for the Cityzens with PSG hitting back almost instantly. Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Barcloa helped them level the scoreline by the end of the 60th minute with stunning goals.

The game turned on its head in the 78th minute as Joao Neves’ header found the back of the nets to help PSG take the lead. Even as Manchester City fought hard to restore parity, Gonacalo Ramos put the game to bed with a fourth goal for PSG in the third minute of the stoppage time. It was a day to forget for all the Manchester City defenders but Rico Lewis’ had a really poor outing with the fans calling him out. As per sofascore, the 20-year-old was also the lowest-rated Manchester City defender of the night with a rating of 6.1.

After the match, the fans took to X to berate him with one of them holding Lewis responsible for PSG’s first three goals.

“Rico Lewis was responsible for the first 3 PSG goals. He was by far the worst on the pitch. It might have been the most disastrous performance a City player has had in decades,” the fan wrote.

Another fan demanded Lewis to be dropped from the playing XI for the rest of the season.

“Get Akanji out of the starting eleven, I do not want to see Rico Lewis on the field again. As of Bernardo, please just leave at the end of the season,” the fan wrote.

Manchester City slips to 25th place in Champions League standings

With this defeat, Manchester City have slipped to a staggering 25th place in the ongoing edition of the UEFA Champions League. At the same time, the win has propelled PSG to 22nd position with this being their third win of the competition.
