While the English Premier League is known for its pace and physicality, it is also known for its close games, with teams fighting and scoring the dying embers of the game. Amidst this chaos, there have been high-scoring games as well as games where the teams have battered the opposition. The goal-scoring chaos in the high-scoring games has led to the managerial sacking, whereas the bigger clubs that had to face the defeat faced embarrassment. It was the time when football turned into fantasy.

Here are the five biggest wins in the Premier League history:

1. Leicester City 9-0 Southampton (2019)

It was the season 2019-20 when Leicester City was marauding the opposition, challenging for the top four and Champions League spot. They turned St. Mary’s into their backyard training ground, playing with Southampton's feelings. Unleashing hell on Ralph Hussnhuttl’s side, Ryan Bertrand's goal opened the floodgates, but what followed was brutal on the defense.

The Foxes’ striking pair, Jamie Vardy and Ayoze Perez, grabbed hat-tricks, running a masterclass on how to score goals. In the game, Ben Chilwelll had his first goal in a while, topped off by James Maddison’s free-kick, an icing on the cake. The goalkeeper, Angus Gunn, would never want to remember the game and would have forgotten at the earliest. Despite these, the home fans stayed and cheered for the ninth goal of the Foxes’ displaying dark humour. Ralph, the gaffer, was shell-shocked by the display and used his trademark cap to hide his disbelief. This matched the tally of the biggest Premier League win.

2. Manchester United 9-0 Southampton (2021)

This was the game where fans wanted to change the name of Manchester United to “Nine”Chester United. After a colossal defeat at St Mary's two seasons ago, the Saints thought they would never face the same scoreline. However, Manchester United were in fine form and an early red to Alexandre Jankewitz in the 80th second of the game ensured that the Red Devils were out for a hunt.

Seven different scorers made their name to the goalsheet which started with Luke Shaw's goal at the back post. Marcus Rashford doubled the lead, while Cavani, Martial and Donny van de Beek found their shooting boots. Bruno Fernandes and Daniel James added goal late in the game to pile the misery on the opposition. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is reserved, had a wide grin on his face. The sport is brutally poetic.

3. Manchester United 9-0 Ipswich Town (1995)

The OG Premier League massacre happened at Old Trafford. Manchester United was guilty, and Ipswich Town was the victim. The Red Devils ran riot at Old Trafford, while Andy Cole wrote himself into Manchester United folklore with a high five. The afternoon game depicted the changing winds of the English Premier League. Mark Hughes started the party, whereas Roy Keane calmed the nerves by dominating the midfield. Craig Forest, the Ipswich shot-stopper, faced 25 shots and conceded only nine that day.

As per the popular meme, Peter Schmeichel could have brought his own chair and sat down while the game was turned on its head. The record for this game stood for 24 years. Sir Alex Ferguson, who was actually known for his ruthlessness for his players, felt sorry for George Burley, the Ipswich gaffer.

4. Newcastle United 8-0 Sheffield Wednesday (1999)

Alan Shearer wrote himself into folklore with five goals at St James' Park. The Wednesday defense might as well have stayed in Yorkshire - they were mere spectators to a masterclass in finishing. Sir Bobby Robson, in just his second home game as Newcastle manager, witnessed his team play dream football. Aaron Hughes started the rout, while Kieron Dyer danced through Wednesday's midfield at will.

The Gallowgate End was in paradise, watching their local hero Shearer dismantle professional footballers like they were training cones. Kevin Pressman in Wednesday's goal kept looking at his defense in disbelief, but there was no help coming. This wasn't just a win - it was Newcastle's peak Premier League moment, with Shearer at his ruthless best.

5. Manchester City 8-0 Watford (2019)

While the Cityzens had built a significant presence in the league, it was this game which made them a dominant club in England. Manchester City turned the game into an art at Etihad Stadium. They scored five goals in 18 minutes, making it worse for the struggling Hornets. David Silva opened the scoring in the first minute of the game, whereas Bernardo Silva made it worse for the side with a hattrick. The chief of art and master orchestrator, Kevin de Buryne, conducted the brilliance on the field.

This game underlined Pep’s philosophy of dominant fluid, possession-based football. The game left the neutral fans also shocked, making them feel like this was a video game. Ben Foster struggled throughout the game, and the scary part was that Manchester City missed sitters in that game. The away end at the Etihad sang “We're gonna win 9-8” when they had conceded seven. The game underlined Manchester City’s devastating face.
