Former Real Madrid star Nacho Fernandez has backed Real Madrid to win the ongoing La Liga season despite their shaky form. Fernandez has won the Champions League for a record six times with Los Blancos and moved to the Saudi Pro League to feature for Al-Qadsiah this summer on a free transfer.
Interestingly, Real Madrid are in the second position currently in the LaLiga points table with 27 points having won eight matches, three draws, and lost one in 12 outings this season. Barcelona are well ahead of them with a six-point lead with 11 wins and two losses in 13 encounters this season so far.
The only advantage for Carlo Ancelotti’s side is that they have an extra game in hand than Barcelona at the moment. They won their previous encounter by 4-0 in the Spanish league against Osasuna recovering from a stunning 0-4 loss at the hands of Barcelona.
However, the table-toppers went down to Real Sociedad 0-1 in their next game on November 10. Coming back to Nacho Fernandez’s prediction, he reckons that the fight for the title will be great, however, he has backed his former team to eventually lift the trophy for the record-extending 37th time.
“Barcelona are playing well, the title fight will be great. But, I think Real Madrid will win La Liga,” he said (via The Madrid Zone on X and reported by COPE).
Fernandez won the Spanish League four times - in 2017, 2020, 2022 and 2024 - during his stint with Los Blancos. For the unversed, Real Madrid were the runaway winners of LaLiga with 95 points even as Barcelona finished at second place with 85 points.
Real Madrid to face Leganes in next clash
No league matches are scheduled in the upcoming weekend with an international break in progress. However, Real Madrid will be keen on continuing their winning run as they will face Leganes in La Liga next on November 24 (Sunday) at 11 PM IST. Leganes are also coming into this clash with a 1-0 win over Sevilla.
Barcelona will have played their 14th clash of the season by then against Celta Vigo who are coming off a 2-2 draw against Real Betis. With Madrid just behind them and with a game in hand, Barcelona cannot afford to drop a game now as things at the top can change quickly.
