Frenkie de Jong offered a way out of Camp Nou
According to recent reports, Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has received a lucrative contract to leave Camp Nou in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Dutchman has received offers from Saudi Pro League clubs like Al-Ittihad. With just more than 12 months remaining on the contract, Frenkie de Jong is tempted to make his move away from Barcelona as the club is yet to start the new contract negotiations.
Frenkie de Jong has been on and off the pitch after he suffered an ankle injury in 2024 which even impacted his Euro 2024 campaign as the player was not drafted for the squad. Despite this setback, he has established himself as an important player since he returned in October. Prior to this, the reports mentioned that Frenkie de Jong might run down his contract in 2026 to land a major payday. However, his current club has threatened to ban him if he decides to not extend the deal.
What did Barcelona coach, Hansi Flick mention about his new contract situation?
On the other hand, Barcelona coach Hansi Flick is also rumored to be in talks with a contract extension. However, he stayed humble and mentioned that he is not a coach who thinks about three years but who loves to change the situation while making incremental gains year by year. He said:
I’m not a coach who thinks about the next three years; what I like is working for the best club in the world, and I really appreciate what we have here. The situation at the club isn’t easy, but we’re all doing our best. That’s the situation now; I have one year left, and if things go well, another. That’s my way of thinking. Step by step, year by year
Hansi Flick also spoke about the campaign. He said that the season is not over yet and wants to end the campaign on a good note. He mentioned that his first focus is Leganes in La Liga and then to complete the Champions League business at Dortmund.
I don’t think we’re finished yet; in the end, I don’t know how much time we’ll have left, but I want to finish my work here on a good note. Besides, my assistants are happy. We have to focus on the season because there’s a lot to do. First Leganés, then Dortmund.
