Manchester United legend Gary Neville is not pleased with two of the club's stars following their 1-1 draw with Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday (November 3). He felt that the players like Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho should work harder and step up for the team. The Chelsea clash was the first for Manchester United since parting ways with manager Erik Ten Hag. But nothing changed for the Red Devils as they struggled yet again and it seemed as if the team lacked coordination right through.
Moreover, the United botched up the lead yet again. Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty in the 70th minute but Moises Caicedo stunned them with an equaliser within four minutes. Both teams had to be content with just a point as the match ended in a draw.
Speaking after the match in his own podcast, Gary Neville particularly pointed out Rashford and Garnacho’s performance in the clash. He felt that the duo is not working hard enough despite spending enough time at the club now. Moreover, Neville also came down hard at the two players stating that it seems they need coaching again.
“The first ethic is that you have to work hard. I'm not saying that Garnacho and Rashford do not work hard, but they can work harder. I know that. That's in their defensive work - which then, I think, gives you the reward in your attacking play. There is no doubt that the harder you work the luckier you get and the more that life goes for you
“They have no idea how to press. I think they need coaching again, almost as if they need to restart and be coached again, this group of players, because they don't look like they've ever met each other,” Neville said.
Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho’s performance this season
Interestingly, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho have fared decently for Manchester United this season so far across different competitions. The Englishman has scored four goals and assisted in three in 16 matches so far while Alejandro has found the net six times and assisted in four of them in 16 outings.
As for Manchester United, they will next be in action in Europa League facing PAOK in the group-stage clash at the Old Trafford on Thursday (November 7). In the Premier League, they will face Leicester City next on Sunday (November 10).
