Hamann gives his views on Trent Alexander Arnold's possibilities of winning Ballon D'Or
According to recent reports, Liverpool right-back has arrived at a decision to depart from the Anfield outfit. The reports mention that Trent Alexander Arnold has made the decision to join Real Madrid in the summer transfer window in a Bosman transfer. Talking about the potential movement from England to Spain, former Liverpool player Didi Hamann discussed the chances of the full-back winning the Ballon D’Or with the Spanish outfit.
Talking to the media, Hamann mentioned he believes it is highly unrealistic that Trent Alexander Arnold would win the pinnacle of the football award as a right back. He referred to Fabio Cannavaro winning it as a defender which also makes it not impossible. Hamann also mentioned that as Real Madrid would be competing at the highest level every season, there will be scrutiny always, and if winning the Ballon d’Or is the only reason, the player should drop the plans. He said:
I do not know how Trent Alexander-Arnold could win the Ballon d’Or as a right-back. Fabio Cannavaro won it as a defender but it’s near enough impossible. Joining Real Madrid won’t harm his chances, he’ll be competing to win the Champions League every year, the spotlight will be on him more. But if winning the Ballon d’Or is the reason that he wants to join Real Madrid, he should forget it and stay at Liverpool
Real Madrid have been chasing the player over the last year and the rumors also suggest that the club tried to secure the player in the January transfer window but Liverpool did not go ahead with the deal as they hoped to reach the conclusion on a contract extension.
What did Didi Hamann speak about Trent Alexander Arnold’s contract situation?
Speaking about the decision-making by the English right-back ahead of the last phase of the season, Didi Hamann opined that the player should let the fans know if he has already made the mention. He mentioned that the fans deserve to know after they have vehemently supported the right back ever since he broke out from the academy. Hamann also mentioned that the fans give a great send off during the final phase of the season.
If a decision has been made, I think the fans deserve to know. They could also then give him a great send off during the final nine games of the season in a swansong.
