Estevao Willian

Here's why Estevao chose Chelsea over Arsenal, Barcelona & Real Madrid?

Estevao Willian

Chelsea are looking to find answers for the upcoming season, having accepted that they are not yet title challengers. While other clubs focus on their current season commitments, Chelsea are planning to secure the services of talented youngsters worldwide. A few months ago, they secured the signature of Estevao Willian, who will join the club once he turns 18 for the preseason of the 2025/26 season. Chelsea faced tough competition, overcoming the likes of Arsenal, Barcelona, and Real Madrid to land the Brazilian. Here’s the revelation of how Chelsea secured his signing.

Speaking to the media, Estevao Willian’s agent, Andre Curry, explained that it was the role offered by the Blues that convinced the player to commit his future to Stamford Bridge. According to Curry, Chelsea offered Willian the playmaker role, and it was the opportunity to play in that position that excited the young talent. Curry said:

It was the only club that saw us as No 10, to play in midfield,

I may be wrong, but we will have the opportunity. I think we will be right, so that was also something that weighed heavily

Andre Curry mentioned that Estevao Willian is a quality player in the No. 10 role, but playing him on the wing diminishes his creativity. He stated that if he were the manager, he would play him as an inside No. 10.

In my opinion, on my team he plays as a ten,

They like to put him on the wing. I think it's too narrow for a player of that quality, I think that... like all players of that quality in the world, he's usually the No 10, so the No 10 plays inside.

Will Estevao play in the starting XI? A big question to answer for Maresca

On the other hand, while Chelsea may have profiled Estevao Willian as a potential No. 10, it could put Maresca's position in jeopardy, as he is currently the best player at the club in that role. In a 4-2-3-1 formation, Cole Palmer plays as the No. 10, and accommodating two No. 10s in the same XI might hinder the club's progress.
