"I wasn't aware" about the interest from Manchester United and Aston Villa, says Fermin Lopez

According to recent reports, the Premier League giants Manchester United and Aston Villa are interested in securing the services of Barcelona’s attacking midfielder Fermin Lopez. However, the Catalonian club thwarted the offers from the clubs to retain the player at Camp Nou. When asked about the same to the player, Lopez mentioned that he was not aware of the offers and wanted to remain in Spain.

Talking to the media outlet, Fermin Lopez mentioned that it is a great comfort that the club wants to keep him and did not listen to the new offers amidst the new ongoing project with Hansi Flick. He stated: 

I wasn't aware of the offers

I knew I wanted to be here, but it is comforting that the club didn't want to listen to them and wanted me here, in the new project

The likes of Manchester United and Aston Villa were ready to pay around £58 million but rebuffed by the Catalonian outfit. This comes as a bold step by Barcelona as they continue to grapple with economic issues. Fermin Lopez has been with Barcelona ever since his teenage years and as he is an academy product, the sale would be a pure profit. 

While Barcelona have kept the faith in the player, Lopez has not taken this for granted. He mentioned that he is a hard worker and will continue to remain available for the side. He also thanked Xavi, Deco, and Flick for showing confidence in him. He said:

I don't know what to tell you,

I'm a hard worker, I'm always available for the team and Xavi, [sporting director] Deco and now Hansi are helping me and giving me confidence to show my football. I'm very grateful to them.

How is Fermin Lopez doing in the 2024/25 season? 

The Spaniard continues to rise to the ascendancy across all competitions. In the previous season, the 21-year-old had eight goals to his name whereas currently, he has 5 G/A to his name in 15 appearances. In the UEFA Champions League, Fermin Lopez has 3 G/A to his name in six appearances. With Barcelona in the title race, Lopez will be a key player.
