Juventus have confirmed the signing of Chelsea defender Renato Veiga on loan until the end of the ongoing 2024-25 season. For the unversed, Veiga had joined Chelsea from FC Basel in July for a reported fee of 14 million Euros. But he has started in just one Premier League match this season. Notably, Veiga has signed a seven-year deal with the Blues and will be keen on proving his mettle with Juventus to earn more game time with Chelsea next season.
The 21-year-old made his debut for Portugal in October 2024 against Poland in the Nations League and featured in a couple more international matches. Meanwhile, Juventus have struggled in defense this season with injuries to their key players. Centre-back Bremer and left-back Juan Cabal with anterior cruciate ligament injuries while Brazil international Danilo bid adieu to the Series A side on Monday.
Hence, the signing of Veiga, a center-back and a defensive midfielder, bodes well for Juventus. As for Veiga, he will be keen on getting more game time in the middle of Serie A and will be looking to impress Chelsea with his show. He will be aware that a good show with Juventus could earn him more matches with Chelsea next season.
How much will Juventus pay Chelsea for Veiga?
According to Fabrizio Romano, Juventus is set to pay a 3.8 million Euros loan fee to Chelsea even as there is no buy option in the transfer.
“A versatile and physical player, who can also play as a midfielder but has played both left-back and as a central defender in England in recent months, Veiga is gifted with great athleticism, making him a threat on set pieces and in aerial duels.
“Bought by the Blues last summer, Veiga made a total of 18 appearances in the first half of the season, contributing two goals and one assist, all of which came in the Conference League. Now, however, a new chapter in Juventus colours begins, for a player who will guarantee new alternatives and options for the Juve technical staff in the coming months,” Juventus said in its official statement, praising Veiga for his skills.
