Manchester City’s star Belgian midfielder, Kevin de Bruyne has expressed shock over the club’s behaviour in recent times. Kevin de Bruyne’s contract is running down in the summer and the club did not even bother to offer the deal. The Belgian veteran is shocked that they did not consult with him or negotiate with him before making the decision. Talking to the media, Kevin de Bruyne mentioned that he is surprised but has come to terms with the situation around him. However, he also mentioned that he is capable of playing at the highest level.

He also partially hinted that the club’s lack of form and his continuous injury vows may be the primary reason behind the club not offering the new contract. He said:

I have not had any offer the whole year, they just took a decision

I was a bit surprised, but I have to accept it. I still think I can perform at the level I'm showing. But I understand clubs have to make decisions. Maybe if the team didn't struggle and I came back like I did this year and bedded in like normal then maybe they take another decision

Talking about what he brings to the table in his swansong years, Kevin de Bruyne mentioned that he is not 25 anymore but he can still operate at the highest intensity. While in recent times, the Middle Eastern clubs have shown interest in the player, the Belgian midfielder also reciprocated the same feelings as he believes in looking at the whole picture where he has to look at sporting, family, and competing for the best. He said:

I feel like I still have a lot to give. Obviously I know I'm not 25 any more, but I still feel like I can do my job,

I'm open for anything. I have to look at the whole picture. I'm looking at sporting, family, everything together, what makes the most sense for me and my family. I like to play football. I like to compete

What next for Manchester City?

Manchester City continue to keep up their Champions League hopes in the ongoing campaign with them being a point clear of three sides who are chasing that fourth and fifth spot. They have five games remaining in the campaign and they have a crucial tie against Aston Villa who are also vying for the CL spot in the midweek. Barring those, they have a lighter schedule compared to other opposition.
