Ahead of an important clash against Sparta Prague in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, Manchester City have dealt with a major blow. The two mainstays, Kyle Walker and Kevin De Bruyne have been sidelined due to injury. Both the players won't be available for the clash on Wednesday. For the unversed, Kevin de Bryune has been recovering from a hamstring injury and has been out of action for over a month, now. The duo also wasn't available for City's last Premier League game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday. Kyle Walker came off international duty with an injury, which kept him out from the Wolves game.
Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola has given an update on the two players' availability for the Champions League clash in midweek. Here's what he told Sky Sports (Via Manchester Evening News):
"I don't think they will be ready (for midweek). We have a few days of training, but I don't think so."
Notably, Kyle Walker has made 308 appearances for Manchester City club, accumulating six goals and making 23 assists. On the other hand, De Bruyne has scored 103 goals and provided 171 assists in 388 matches. He has been a vital cog in the team, since 2015.
'I thought we played really well'- Pep Guardiola on Premier League clash against Wolves
Manchester City are coming off a 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in their Premier League fixture on Sunday. Wolves took the early lead after Nelson Semedo's delicious deep cross was tucked away by Jorgen Strand Larsen in the seventh minute.
Josko Gvardiol's stunning effort from a distance helped City find the equalizer in the 33rd minute. The in-form Jose Sa gave a stunning performance, making crucial saves to deny Bernardo Silva, Savinho, and Ruben Dias.
However, John Stones, eventually, found the winner in the fifth minute of the stoppage time. Shedding light on his team's performance, Guardiola said:
"I’m sorry to disagree, but I thought we played really really good. You can’t press because (goalkeeper Jose) Sa is long ball. We win the duel, which is fine, and then there’s 11 players on the penalty spot, so breaking them down is so difficult.
