Barcelona legend and former Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi has opened up about his time in Ligue 1, revealing that he did not enjoy how things unfolded. The Argentine forward, who now plays for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer, has adapted to the American lifestyle.

Reflecting on his days in the French capital, Messi admitted that he never felt truly happy on a daily basis, whether it was during training or on matchdays. He found it difficult to adapt to various aspects of football in Paris. However, he expressed that when Inter Miami came calling, he immediately felt at home with the club, which was growing and still in its early stages.

I wasn't happy on a daily basis, with the training, the matches. I had a hard time adapting to all that. I felt called to come to Inter [Miami] because it's a club that's growing, very new, with few years as a club

While discussing the upcoming FIFA World Cup and FIFA Club World Cup, Lionel Messi emphasized the importance of football players participating in these prestigious tournaments. He also praised the significance of having two clubs involved in the competition, calling it a remarkable achievement.

Regarding Major League Soccer (MLS), Lionel Messi noted that the league continues to grow both as a football competition and as a broader entity. He expressed his belief that MLS is developing and that he hopes more players will choose to play in the United States, helping the sport grow even further. He said:

I think this is very important for the club, especially, to participate for the first time in a World Cup that will take place in the country and for the MLS to have two teams is a wonderful thing

Everything that's happening creates an opportunity for the MLS to keep growing in football, as a league. And for other players to have the opportunity to come and keep growing

What is next for Inter Miami?

The 2025 season has kicked off on a positive note for Inter Miami in the Eastern Conference. They will next face Houston Dynamo in their upcoming match before preparing for the second leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16.
