Lionel Messi has reacted on social media after Barcelona’s thumping 4-0 victory over Real Madrid in La Liga on Saturday (October 26). Messi, a former Barcelona star, has congratulated the club for their stunning victory in the El Clasico. This statement win over the arch-rivals has helped Barcelona increase their lead at the top to six points in the table.
As far as the match is concerned, Robert Lewandowski scored two goals while Lamine Yamal and Raphina also found the net once as La Blaugrana registered their 101st win over Madrid in history. Barcelona also ended Real Madrid’s 42-match unbeaten streak in La Liga. A win or draw in this clash could’ve seen Madrid level the longest-ever unbeaten run in the history of La Liga.
For the unversed, Barcelona own this special record as they hadn’t lost a single game for 43 consecutive matches between 2013 and 2014. Coincidentally, the same team stopped Los Blancos from leveling the record. Coming back to Messi, the former Barcelona player, took to Instagram to react to the club’s famous win over Madrid. “Qué hermosa victoria!!” he wrote in Spanish which translates in English to “What a great victory!!”
Lionel Messi’s amazing record in El Clasico
For the unversed, the current Inter Miami forward played a staggering 17 seasons for Barcelona when he was arguably at the peak of his career, form-wise. The 37-year-old is the club’s all-time highest goalscorer having found the net 672 times in 778 appearances to go with 303 assists.
Across different competitions, Lionel Messi featured in El Clasico 45 times and scored 26 goals and 14 assists. With Messi in the team, Barcelona won 19 matches, lost 15, and drew 11 matches against Real Madrid. Messi is the only player to register two hat-tricks in the history of El Clasico having done it in the 2006-07 season at the Camp Nou and in 2014 at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, Barcelona lost both home and away matches 3-1 and 2-1 respectively in Messi’s last El Clasico appearance for the club during the 2020-21 season.
In fact, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner failed to register a goal involvement in the last seven Clasico’s before bidding adieu to Barcelona in 2021 eventually.
