Lisandro Martinez feels he was lucky to score a winner against Fulham for Manchester United

Lisandro Martinez has opened up after scoring a winning goal for Manchester United against Fulham on Sunday (January 26). For the unversed, the Red Devils defeated Fulham 1-0 to register only their third away win of the ongoing Premier League season. Martinez found the net from outside the box in the 78th minute to put United ahead and the goal was enough for them to churn out three points from the clash. However, the Argentine has acknowledged that he was lucky and it played its part in his goal.

However, he was happy that his team won the game and they got crucial three points to jump up in the points table.

“I think I was lucky, but an important win. I am happy with the way we won the game. It doesn't matter who scores - the most important is the three points,” Martinez told TNT Sports. 

He also praised his Manchester United teammate Toby Collyer as the latter made a stunning goal-saving clearance on the line in the second half.

“I am so happy because of this guy. This guy is a big example for the young generation. He is working so hard every day and he is so humble. It means a lot,” Martinez added.

This was the eighth consecutive victory for Manchester United against Fulham. They last lost at Craven Cottage back in the 2008-09 season. As for Martinez, this was only his second goal of the season for the Red Devils in 19 appearances having primarily played as the centre-back for the club.

Manchester United jump to 12th place in the Premier League table

Meanwhile, Manchester United have jumped from 13th to 12th place with this win and have 29 points to their name. They have played 23 matches now with eight wins, five draws, and 10 losses. They will next face FCSB in their 8th clash of the Europa League on January 31 at 12:30 AM IST. In the Premier League, their next opponent is Crystal Palace with the game scheduled on February 2 at 7:30 PM IST.
