Virgil van Dijk has opened up on his verbal spat with Manchester City player Kyle Walker during the Premier League clash on December 1. For the unversed, Virgil was disappointed that the toss started without him and hence, it led to war of words between him and Walker at the Anfield ahead of the clash between Liverpool and City.
However, the matter didn’t escalate further despite a verbal altercation and the fixture started on time. The Liverpool defender admitted that he was annoyed with Walker but was happy with the final result of the match as they won 2-0.
“I was annoyed by the fact that he started the toss without me. I was busy with my mascot and took a bit of time but he started the coin toss quite quickly. I was a little annoyed by that but look, good game, we won and we move on,” he said (via Tribal Football).
As far as the match is concerned, it was a brilliant outing for the Reds with Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah scoring goals. Overall, they had complete control on the game. The win stretched Liverpool’s lead up at the top to nine points as they now have 34 points after 13 matches with 11 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. Meanwhile, Manchester City have dropped to fifth place with 23 points as they have won seven, lost four and drawn two matches so far.
Virgil Van Dijk praises Liverpool manager Arne Slot
Meanwhile, after the win, Virgil Van Dijk also pointed out the impact of the club manager Arne Slot ever since he joined. The 34-year-old also stated that Slot was done very well so far in terms of gelling the squad not only as a manager but also as a human being.
For the unversed, Arne Slot replaced Jurgen at the top role which wasn’t easy with the latter’s reputation. But according to Van Dijk, Slot has successfully taken over the reins and excelled in his role so far. It has been a fantastic start to Liverpool’s campaign this season as they have been in great form in the UEFA Champions League as well.
