"Man City have 1% chance against Real Madrid" - Pep Guardiola
Manchester City has staged a comeback in the league finding their way back to the fourth spot in the English Premier League with an emphatic 4-0 victory against Newcastle United. After the weekend fixture, Manchester City are now back in the continental showdown against Real Madrid in the second leg of the playoffs. In the first leg, Real Madrid clinched a late victory at the Etihad with Jude Bellingham pulling off a goal for his side to end the game 3-2.
Talking about the second leg fixture at Santiago Bernabeu, Pep Guardiola mentioned that the chances of registering a win after overcoming a deficit of one goal remains at a measly 1%. The Spaniard believes that they would go with a minimal chance and try to overturn the deficit in the Spanish capital.
The margin to win in [the] Bernabeu in that position, everybody knows that if you ask before the game, the percentage to go through, I don't know, we arrive at 1%, it will be minimal
But as [long] as you have a chance, we will try, that's for sure
Pep Guardiola opens up about the 2024/25 season
Manchester City struggled with injuries to their key personnel in the Premier League and found themselves out of the top four, allowing Liverpool to run away with the points. Pep Guardiola mentioned that the performance in the ongoing season has been poor and a 4-0 win against the Magpies would be just a paper over the cracks. They are yet to reach the maximum potential in the ongoing campaign with the current squad:
We have been really, really poor in performance [and] in the results this season, and just for one game, that today, played really good, and it's not going to change the opinion, the reality, the team, it is right now, and we are still not good in terms of day by day
Who is set to remain sidelined and return for the fixture against Real Madrid?
Manchester City will be happy to see Erling Haaland and Ruben Dias returning to the fold whereas they will still be without Jack Grealish, Manuel Akanji, Oscar Bobb, and Rodri.
