Manchester City have reached an agreement with football club RC Lens for the transfer of star defender Abdukodir Khusanov, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. If true, the 20-year-old is the first signing of the Cityzens this month. Manchester City have agreed to pay a massive amount of 40 million Euros to secure the services of Khusanov with add-ons to be included in the deal as well. The Uzbekistan center-back will be signing a deal with Manchester City until 2029 with an option to extend it by a year as well.
The young defender will undergo his medical tests in the next few days before joining his new club. It has been a tumultuous season for City with a flurry of injuries to many players. They have found themselves in urgent need of a player in the defensive line, following injuries to Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji, and John Stones.
This has led to Pep Guardiola being forced to play academy graduate Jahmai Simpson-Pusey a number of times this season. Khusanov has been playing for the senior RC Lens team since the 2023-24 season and has played 24 matches, so far, in Ligue 1. If the deal goes through eventually, Khusanov will become the first-ever player from Uzbekistan to feature in the Premier League. At the same time, he is also the first Uzbekistan player to have featured in the Ligue 1.
Manchester City open to more deals in transfer market
Meanwhile, apart from signing Khusanov, Manchester City are open to more deals in the transfer market this season. They desperately want to make amends for the disappointing first half and are reportedly prepared to start talks with Brazilian team Palmeiras for the transfer of Vitor Reis, the teenage sensation.
According to Fabrizio Romano, City are keen on reaching an agreement with the 18-year-old for the center-back position. However, it won’t be easy for them to secure his services as Palmeiras have already turned down offers worth 25 million pounds from Brighton and Hove Albion for the same player. It remains to be seen if City will be able to secure Reis’ services this season.
