Manchester United are planning to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka according to TEAMtalk. The developments have accelerated after their new head coach Ruben Amorim officially took charge of the club on November 11 (Monday). Apparently, Goretzka has dropped down the pecking order for the Bundesliga giants this season under Vincent Kompany.

He has appeared in nine matches across competitions but has been in the starting XI only once. Moreover, in these outings, the midfielder has managed to score only one goal. He will enter in the final year of his contract with Bayern Munich at the end of this season and there is a possibility of them being open to his departure for a nominal fee.

Even though he has struggled, Goretzka’s stocks remain at an all-time high and has a lot of football left in him at the age of just 29. Manchester United seem set to offer him a chance to get his career on track and this is also a great opportunity for Leon to prosper under Amorim. Notably, the Red Devils tend to plan for the long term, and with age in hand, they might go for the midfielder aggressively. Having said that, the club has yet to submit an official offer for him.

Moreover, the United also need him given their situation this season where they are struggling across competitions. They sacked their head coach Erik Ten Hag mid-season following constant poor results and the new era has begun under Ruben Amorim. For the unversed, United are at 13th place in the Premier League table after 11 games, with four wins, three draws, and four losses so far.

Are Casemiro and Eriksen leaving Manchester United?

Manchester United’s interest in Leon Goretzka might raise uncertainty around the future of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen. The latter is in the final year of his contract and the club is yet to hand him an extension yet. However, he has fared decently scoring four goals and assisting in three in 13 matches this season across different leagues.

As for Casemiro, he is among the highest-paid players at Manchester United and has been in decent form as well. The contract of the 32-year-old with the club expires in 2026.
