Manchester United’s Premier League season continued to face hurdles as they lost to Brighton 1-3 at Old Trafford on Sunday (January 19). It wasn’t a great game for the Red Devils but what left the fans furious was the horrible blunder from goalkeeper Andre Onana, that led to Brighton scoring their third goal, which eventually sealed their fate. The incident happened in the 76th minute when Yasin Ayari’s harmless low cross was spilled by Onana. His mistake led to the ball going straight to the feet of Brighton’s Georginio Rutter, who calmly slotted the ball into the nets to extend his team’s lead to 3-1.
Onana’s blunder expectedly was met with frustration from his teammates with Diogo Dalot and Matthijs de Ligt lying on the pitch in disbelief with heads in their hands. Bruno Fernandes and Noussair Mazraoui were also not pleased with Onana’s actions as they were in a sense of shock. The game had earlier witnessed more drama as Brighton’s second goal at 1-1 was controversially ruled out by a VAR decision. However, Onana’s blunder overshadowed everything only for the fans to take to social media to vent their anger on him.
One of the United fans called for Onana to be dropped as his mistake cost them the game. “Onana needs to be dropped. Another howler from the guy, and it’s cost us the game! How many more mistakes before we finally wake up and get a proper keeper?” the fan wrote on X.
Another fan remembered the time when David de Gea was United’s goalkeeper and wrote, “How did we go from De Gea to this?! Onana has single-handedly cost us so many points this season. Time to make a change!”
A few more fans slammed Andre Onana and reflected on the entire season recalling how such mistakes have cost them so many matches this season.

Courtesy of their latest loss, Manchester United have slipped to 13th place in the Premier League standings this season. After 22 matches, they have won only seven, drawn five, and lost a staggering 10 with only 26 points to show for their efforts.
