According to recent reports, Manchester United are looking forward to selling their Brazilian midfielder Casemiro in the remaining days of the transfer window as the club would want to improve their wage structure. Casemiro is one of the top earners at the club, after Marcus Rashford, affecting their wage structure and Profit and Sustainability Rules set by the governing body.
Manchester United signed Casemiro from Real Madrid in a deal worth £70 million under Erik ten Hag. Barring his first season, Casemiro has not been a regular feature at the club and has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim. Ruben Amorim, the new manager of the Red Devils, has preferred to use Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte, and Bruno Fernandes in the midfield. To rotate, the manager has used Toby Collyer and Christian Eriksen, sidelining the Brazilian international.
After the game against FCSB in the Europa League, where Casemiro was featured as a substitute, the Portuguese gaffer mentioned that the choice not to field the player remains with him and depends on the style of the game that he wants to play. Ruben Amorim said:
I have to make some choices. I want to play a style of game that is sometimes different from other coaches and I have to choose based on that, that’s all
What next for Casemiro?
Casemiro has 18 months left on his contract, but he has become a peripheral member of the squad. He has failed to adapt to the style of play, and being on the wrong side of 30 has not helped him either. His age is catching up, and the intensity demanded by Amorim, as well as the Premier League’s physicality, has put him in trouble.
The pundits and journalists had rumored that the player would leave the club for greener pastures in Saudi Arabia. However, there has been no contact at this point, raising concerns for the club and the manager.
If Manchester United do not enter the player’s transaction as a loss, they have to sell the player at a fee of £22.5 million according to new PSR rules.
