Manchester United have initiated talks with Sporting CP to sign Viktor Gyokeres, according to Florian Plettenberg. For the unversed, the new boss of the United, Reuben Amorim was at the helm with Sporting CP prior to the ongoing Premier League season. On expected lines, Amorim is trying to secure the services of Viktor Gyokeres who is in sensational form this season for the Portuguese club. He has scored 24 goals in 21 matches so far and notably, was groomed by Amorim during his time at the club.
However, Manchester United will have to be up for the challenge from Manchester City to sign Gyokeres. The latter club is also eager to get hold of the talented player according to a report. Interestingly, Pep Guardiola’s side lost to Sporting 4-1 in the UEFA Champions League earlier in the season with Gyokeres scoring a stunning hat-trick.
Viktor Gyokeres plays for Sweden at the international level and has played 10 matches for the country so far scoring three goals and assisting in one. He has represented Brighton as well in his career before turning up for Swansea and then Coventry.
The 26-year-old stayed with Coventry for three seasons and played 113 matches while finding the nets a staggering 41 goals. He also assisted in 17 goals proving his worth for the team time and again.

However, Viktor Gyokeres reached a new level under Amorim after he joined Sporting in the 2023-24 season. Overall, he has so far turned up for Sporting in 45 matches and scored 45 goals in Liga Portugal. In the UEFA Champions League, he has found the net five times in as many appearances this season and has assisted in 12 goals across competitions for the club.
The kind of performances he has come up with especially for Sporting in the last couple of seasons, it is certain that Gyokeres is in demand. With two of the biggest clubs in the Premier League - Manchester United and Mancheter City - eager to secure his services, it remains to be seen if the supremely talented player will be able to keep up his form.
Gyokeres will next be in action for Sporting against Moreirense on December 6 at 1:45 AM IST.
