According to recent reports, Manchester United have set their sights on Manchester City prodigy. The club is all set to surprise their opposition with a bid to secure the services of James McAtee who is set to enter the final year of his contract. The player finds himself at the crossroads in the impending summer transfer window as he continues to lack gametime while having netted seven times in the ongoing campaign.

The report read:

Manchester United are considering a shock swoop for Manchester City star James McAtee. Any move would see the 22-year-old midfielder become the 15th first-team player to wear both red and blue in Manchester.

The English U-21 player is highly rated by Pep Guardiola but has struggled for minutes in the English Premier League. He started his second ever Premier League fixture in the midweek when he played against Aston Villa. His ability to play on the flanks makes him an interesting proposition to Manchester United who are making room for additional attackers in the line up

Manchester United are linked with several other players for the upcoming summer transfer window. According to recent reports, Manchester United are closing in on Matheus Cunha as they have initiated the talks after agreeing to trigger the release clause.

Why would Manchester City part ways with James McAtee?

While Manchester City will look forward to keeping their emerging midfielder, the tantalizing option of getting Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest to replace Kevin de Bruyne will play a big role. On the other hand, Nottingham Forest are also looking to sign McAtee which could make an interesting proposition for the club to go for a swap deal instead of selling to the arch-rivals.

Who are Manchester United playing next in the English Premier League?

While Manchester United’s 2024/25 season is completely based on how they end the Europa League, the club would want to finish as high on the points table as it would help them get more transfer fees as every position is added with additional money. They will face Europe-chasing AFC Bournemouth in the 34th gameweek of the English Premier League.
