Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has expressed his deep dissatisfaction with several of the club's key players, labeling them as "not good enough" and "probably overpaid." His criticism came after a challenging start to his tenure at Old Trafford, having taken charge of football operations in February last year. Ratcliffe’s frustration is evident, as his involvement with the club has yet to yield the desired results on the pitch. Among the players Ratcliffe singled out were Rasmus Hojlund, Andre Onana, Casemiro, Jadon Sancho, and Antony. The British billionaire’s comments reflect his disappointment with their performances, with each of these players failing to meet the expectations at Manchester United.

Ratcliffe’s criticisms highlight the ongoing struggles the club has faced in recent seasons, with high-profile signings not living up to their potential or fulfilling the role the club had hoped for them. His remarks are likely to stir up further debate among fans and pundits, given the high-profile nature of the players involved. Ratcliffe’s frustration points to a wider issue at Manchester United, where expensive investments have not led to the desired success on the field, and the club continues to face challenges in their quest to return to the top of English and European football.

"If you look at the players we are buying this summer, that we didn't buy, we're buying Antony, we're buying Casemiro, we're buying Onana, we're buying Hojlund, we're buying Sancho. These are all things from the past, whether we like it or not, we've inherited those things and have to sort that out. For Sancho, who now plays for Chelsea and we pay half his wages, we're paying 17 million pounds to buy him in the summer," Ratcliffe stated.

After Manchester United finished eighth in the Premier League last season and secured the FA Cup, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, along with his United advisors, decided to stick with manager Erik ten Hag. However, after enduring a string of poor results, the Dutchman was sacked in October and replaced by Ruben Amorim. Ratcliffe has since acknowledged that sticking with Ten Hag was a mistake. His decision to retain the manager despite disappointing performances has now been questioned, with the club continuing to struggle on the pitch. This misstep, in Ratcliffe's view, added to the growing frustrations surrounding United’s management.

Ratcliffe also admitted that hiring Dan Ashworth as sporting director was another miscalculation. Ashworth left the role in December after just five months, further highlighting the instability at the club during this period. These decisions reflect a period of turmoil for Manchester United, with leadership changes and high-profile mistakes contributing to the club's ongoing challenges in reclaiming its former glory. Ratcliffe's reflections suggest a willingness to learn from past errors as he continues to navigate the club’s rebuilding process.
