Liverpool thumped Tottenham Hotspur by a huge 6-3 margin in the Premier League on Sunday (December 22). Mohamed Salah was their star player on the night, scoring two goals and with that, he also became the fourth-highest goal-scorer for the club. He has admitted that it is a great feat to achieve for such a huge club. With the latest set of goals, Salah has now taken his tally to 229 goals for Liverpool having joined the Reds in the 2017-18 season. He is now the fourth-highest goal-scorer in Liverpool’s rich football history.

For the unversed, Ian Rush is on top of this list having netted a staggering 346 goals for Liverpool during his illustrious career. Roger Hunt managed to score 285 goals while Gordon Hodgson is next, having netted 241 goals for the club. Salah is only 13 goals away from surpassing Gordon and given his form, the 32-year-old star might well outnumber him in the ongoing season itself.

Salah has scored 15 goals this season and assisted in 11 in 16 matches in the ongoing Premier League season. Even in the UEFA Champions League, he has found the net twice while assisting in four in six matches, so far. When it comes to the EFL Cup, the veteran has scored one goal in two outings this season.

After the match, Mohamed Salah reacted to his unreal achievement and was delighted to have scored so many goals for Liverpool. However, he is more happy that his team managed to win the clash against Tottenham.

“It’s great to achieve that at such a big club, but the most important thing is that we won the game. Wherever I am going to end my career I am happy about it,” he said (via The Anfield Talk).

Liverpool strengthen their top-of-the-table position

With their latest win, Liverpool have strengthened their position at the top of the points table. They have played 16 matches, winning 12, drawing 3 and losing only one this season in the Premier League. They also have an extra game in hand compared to other teams and now have a four-point lead over second-placed Chelsea.
