Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah opted to remain tight-lipped when asked about his future with the club after their resounding win over Leicester City in the Premier League. His contract with Liverpool is set to end after the 2024-25 season and there is no update from either party on the extension. On multiple occasions previously, Salah has opened up on his contract extension but this time around, he dodged the question smartly wishing the fans a very happy new year. He is also looking forward to the next home game for Liverpool.

“I wish fans a Happy New Year and I will see them at the next home game,” Salah said (via Express) after the match. For the unversed, Salah added one more goal to his tally after scoring a brace in the clash against Leciester City.

This was his 16th goal of the season in just 17 appearances in the Premier League to go with 11 assists. This season, Salah has been in great form, and across all competitions, the 32-year-old has scored 19 goals and assisted in 15 in 25 matches so far.

Liverpool won the match 3-1 with Salah finding the net in the 82nd minute. Prior to him, Cody Gakpo and Curtis Jones had struck in the 45th and 49th minute respectively. Interestingly, Liverpool came back from 0-1 down to seal the clash 3-1, eventually. For Leicester, Jordan Ayew had opened the account in the 6th minute but they couldn’t keep the lead.

Liverpool strengthen their top position

With their latest win, Liverpool have once again strengthened their position on top of the table. After playing 17 matches, they have won 13, drawn three and lost only one, and have 42 points to show for their effort. A seven-point lead looks good enough for now with Chelsea dropping their game against Fulham on Thursday (December 26).

The Blues lost the clash 1-2 to remain in second place with 35 points after 18 matches. They have so far won 10, drawn five, lost three and will be keen on getting back to the winning ways soon.
