In an explosive statement, former Manchester United legend Paul Scholes stated that Ruben Amroim would require at least 4-5 years to make Red Devils a title contender in the Premier League. Interestingly, the former Sporting CP manager is set to replace Erik ten Hag as United manager on November 11.
Former Manchester United star Paul Scholes has voiced his concerns on Ruben Amorim, who is all set to become the new manager at Old Trafford, saying that he has taken on a huge task in assembling a strong team to be able to rival other big competitors.
Speaking to Eurosport, Scholes said that entering United, Amorim will face a tough job considering that United is still far off below the Champions League spots. The club's situation with recent failures under huge profiles such as Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho raises doubts over time.
Paul Scholes is very certain that Ruben Amroim will take, at least 4-5 years, to make Man United a league title contender.
“The big concern for me is how can he get this team to challenge for the Champions League places when it should be the very, very least. And then, I do not know how much time he is going to have to make that next step again, to get it challenging for the league title. You are thinking three-and-a-half or four years to even get close to that."
Although Manchester United, recently, triumphed over Sporting CP 2-0 in the Europa League, Scholes isn't sold on what Amorim can bring straight away. He then admitted that Amorim is a positive tactician at Sporting CP especially in the way that his team gave so much energy, hunger, and threat to Manchester City during the recent Champions League match.
Ruben Amroim to replace Erik ten Hag
Manchester United finished eighth in the 2023-24 PL season under manager Erik ten Hag after also being eliminated from the Champions League group stages. They had, however, won the FA Cup by beating Manchester City. Following United's disastrous start in the current PL 2024-25 season, ten Hag was recently axed, and Ruben Amorim has been confirmed as his successor. He will report for duty on November 11, with fans eager to see a major change.
