Pep Guardiola briefs about Kevin de Bruyne's contract situation; says "upto the club"

Manchester City’s ongoing struggle in the Premier League is unprecedented. The club has only three wins in their last 12 games, across all competitions. Their struggles have crept up since Pep Guardiola signed his new contract with the club. He is not the only one who was closer to the contract expiry. Several players are closer to their contract expiry and one of them is Kevin de Bruyne. When Pep Guardiola was asked about the same, he said the Belgian’s contract extension is up to the club and does not fall under his purview. 

Talking in the press conference, he said: 

It’s up to the club. It’s not my business

Pep Guardiola said that the club will decide on his contract at the end of the season based on his performances as he is slowly moving towards the wrong side of his 30s.

It’s about how he's going to perform until the end of the season, the age that he has, and many things. I think the club has to think about it.

Pep Guardiola talks about the January transfer window situation: 

Everybody knows the dire situation of Manchester City in the ongoing season and their poor form is attributed to the aging players in the squad. The fans want Pep Guardiola and Manchester City to secure the signings in the January transfer window to have a chance of finishing the top four, let alone defending the title. However, Pep Guardiola wants the club to focus on signing the right players and not signing for the sake of signing it. He said:

I don't know right now. It's not easy, it will not be easy. Maybe we'll sign, or maybe we don't sign anyone. So I think the club has to be wise, don't do it for doing it, just to add players 

Later in the day, Manchester City will face West Ham United in their first game of 2025 at Etihad Stadium. Manchester City will look to exploit the struggling West Ham United to register the first win of the year.
