Real Madrid boss, Carlo Ancelotti, criticized and lashed out at his players despite the club showing the grit and determination to win the game against Valencia even after being down to ten men. In the post-match press conference, the Italian said that explaining his side’s performance is something hard to explain as it was contrasting to see the least. He said:

It’s difficult to explain how bad we were in the first half and how good we were in the second, and with a man down

While he said that his side deserved all three points, Ancelotti pointed out that Real Madrid cannot show the flaws and two different sides to the opposition. In the game, Real Madrid were caught sleeping several times but the team salvaged the game in the dying embers to go two points ahead in the title race with the extra game being played. He said:

We deserved three points, but we can’t show these two sides. Tremendously bad in the first half, tremendously good in the second with 10 men

"We think it wasn’t a red card"- Carlo Ancelotti on Vinicius Jr handing a red card in 79th minute

At Mestalla Stadium, Valencia scored the goal on the rebound of the save and were winning the game until Luka Modric came off the bench to score the equalizer in the 84th minute. Before the equalizer, the Brazilian internationalVinicius Jr was shown a red card in the 79th minute as he slapped the opposition goalkeeper during the altercation. Jude Bellingham scored an injury-time winner to take home all three points.

Carlo Ancelotti also highlighted that the club will appeal the red card for Vincius Jr but also applauded the grit and resilience shown by his team. Ancelotti was skeptical if the refereeing body would accept the appeal:

We think it wasn’t a red card... But the team reacted to this difficulty. We are going to appeal, I don’t know if they will accept it

As Carlo Ancelotti talked about the contrasting halves of the game, he also spoke about the penalty misses happening during the game. Real Madrid were gifted a penalty but Jude Bellingham failed to convert it. The Real Madrid boss took the responsibility for these misses and he mentioned that he should be choosing a better individual to take the penalty.

It bothers me that we missed three penalties, I think I have to take responsibility for choosing who is going to take the penalty.
