Rio Ferdinand has showered praise on Manchester United star Amad Diallo for his exceptional show in the 2-1 win over Manchester City on Sunday at the Etihad Stadium. United came from behind in the last couple of minutes to register a sensational win and steal crucial three points from City.

Josko Gvardiol opened the account for the Cityzens in the 36th minute and were expected to win the game after retaining the lead for the majority of the clash. However, the game turned on its head with Amad Diallo stealing a poor back pass from Matheus Nunes to goalkeeper Ederson. Diallo didn’t take an immediate shot at the goal only to be tackled dangerously by Nunes inside the box that earned United a penalty.

Bruno Fernandes then levelled from the spot in the 88th minute and within the next two minutes, the Manchester City defense collapsed. A long ball from Lisandro Martinez to Diallo worked wonders as the latter managed to bluff the goalkeeper to put his team ahead.

The 22-year-old was easily the best player for the Red Devils on the night and Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand lauded him for his show on X. “Written off by many inside and out the club. Too lightweight. No power. Can’t run. Too young. Big price. And more. But [Amad Diallo] is delivering, the desire plus quality is thriving,” the former defender wrote.

Ruben Amorim delighted with a comeback win for Manchester United

Meanwhile, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is delighted with his team’s come from behind win against Manchester City. He compared the team’s attitude with the 0-2 loss to Arsenal in the previous outing stating that the Red Devils believed they could win and that made the difference eventually in the Manchester derby.

With their latest win, Manchester United remain at the 13th place in the Premier League standings. They have now won six matches, drawn four and lost six in 16 outings this season with 22 points while the City have slipped to fifth with their fifth loss of the season at the hands of Manchester United.

The City will next face Aston Villa on December 21 (Saturday) at 6 PM IST while the Red Devils will lock horns against Bournemouth the next day at 7:30 PM IST.
