The famous Manchester Derby, which engaged the fans over the last decade with its thrillers and last-minute tackles and goals, ended in a stalemate at Old Trafford on Sunday. With this result, while Manchester United made no significant improvement in their standings, City were left dry in their Champions League spot pursuit. At the end of the game, Ruben Amorim gave his honest verdict about the side.

Talking about the game and where his side needs improvement, Ruben Amorim opined that the club needs improvements “Everywhere” and specifically called out what needs to improve. He also called out players to improve across the pitch and mentioned that the players need to spend more time near the final third to have more opportunities and a go at the goal. Amorim said:

Everywhere. We need to improve in build-up, transition, decision clearly in the final third. ... Every player can improve and they are here because they showed something in other clubs. We have to spend more time near the final third to have more opportunities

What did Ruben Amorim opine on the lack of goals in the game?

Ruben Amorim reckoned that both clubs not competing for the Premier League title caused the dull draw at Old Trafford. He mentioned that when there is a close Premier League title chase, no one would be ready to drop even a point, but with nothing at stake, the feelings towards the game are different. He said:

If you look at the moment of both teams, not fighting for titles — that changes completely the game. The feeling of winning of having to win every game, not to lose one point, it is not there. If we are fighting for big things, the feeling will be completely different. Both teams have a lot of doubts in some moments. I think you need to be fighting for the big things [to create more atmosphere]

What next for Manchester United?

Manchester United are now heading into the most crucial game of their season- a clash against Lyon in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Europa League. While the current scores may not inspire confidence, it is the state of gameplay that will raise the hopes of the fans.
