Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim offered his stance on Marcus Rashford's snub after the club’s heartbreaking EFL Cup quarter-final loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday. The Red Devils suffered a 4-3 away defeat against the Spurs, adding more misery to their disappointing season. Rashford was also absent from the team’s memorable away Premier League win in Manchester derby last Sunday. The English forward had said he was disheartened to miss the derby and added that his time at Old Trafford is coming to an end.
"It's disheartening to be left out of a derby but it's happened, we won the game so let's move on,” Rashford said after City snub.“It's disappointing but I'm also someone as I've got older I can deal with setbacks. What am I going to do about it? Sit there and cry about it. Or do my best the next time I'm available."
After a thrilling comeback win against the Citizens, Amorim explained his decision to drop Marcus Rashford by saying the player need to perform at the highest level.
“This kind of club needs big talent and he's a big talent, so he just needs to perform at the highest level and that is my focus,” Amorim told reporters after City win. “I just want to help Marcus."
"He will be there preparing for next game"- Ruben on Rashford's future at Man United
When questioned about the Englishman’s future with the team after the EFL Cup exit, Amorim defended his team selection and offered an olive branch to Rashford to make it right in the training session ahead of the next game against Bournemouth.
"Tomorrow we have training, he will be there preparing for next game," Amorim told Sky Sports. 'He is a United player, everyone has a future at Manchester United."
The 27-year-old Rashford has not fired enough to make his case for the starting eleven this season with just seven goals in 24 overall appearances. He has started in 12 of his 15 league appearances but has found the back of the nets on just four occasions so far.
After setting his mind on leaving Old Trafford, Rashford has reportedly attracted interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Chelsea. He has scored 138 goals and provided 64 assists in his 426 overall appearances for Manchester United.
