Ruben Amorim self introspects; says Moyes is doing "a better job than me"
Manchester United endured another tough game in the English Premier League but were able to salvage a point at Goodison Park when they faced Everton on Saturday. The Old Trafford outfit struggled to string passes together in the first half, but in the last 20 minutes, they clawed back to register a 2-2 draw. During the first half, howlers from the defense and goalkeeper allowed Everton to take a rightful 2-0 lead. However, Bruno Fernandes' free kick and Ugarte’s half-volley helped the side secure the point, allowing them to stay in 15th position.
Talking about the game and his coaching style, Ruben Amorim mentioned that his counterpart at Goodison Park is doing a better job with results. He emphasized that winning the game and building belief within the team is important. Though he acknowledged the pressure at Old Trafford compared to Goodison Park, he applauded the coaching staff at Everton. He said:
Simple thing, David Moyes is doing a better job than me
Then small things like winning one game, winning two games and then the belief. The pressure is not the same but we have to give merit to the players of Everton and especially to the coaches of Everton
What are the positives that Ruben Amorim is taking home from the game?
Despite being unhappy with the results, the Portuguese manager mentioned that the second half made him believe the team could play and create solutions. While he was apprehensive about finding problems rather than solutions in these kinds of fixtures, he also observed the capability of the side. Ruben Amorim also asked his side to be more consistent with their performances. He said:
What I feel is that sometimes you don't feel improvement in the team but some games you think we can play and create situations. That is a good thing
In this moment when you watch the games, you see more problems than solutions. That is clear. When we play some games, I see things are there and we are capable but we have to be consistent
What next for Manchester United in the English Premier League?
Manchester United are all set to host relegation-fighting Ipswich Town in a potential six-point clash. While the chances of the Red Devils getting relegated are minimal, the club would want to take no chances. A win against the promoted side Ipswich Town would potentially send the Old Trafford outfit 16 points clear of the relegation zone.
