Scott McTominay is enjoying his stay at Napoli after joining the club recently in the summer of 2024. He was reportedly signed for a huge amount of 25.7 million pounds by the Italian club after spending his entire career with Manchester United in the Premier League. However, his decision to make a shift has worked wonders for McTominay as the 28-year-old has been impressive under Antonio Conte. In 18 appoearances across competitions for Napoli, McTominay has scored five goals and assisted in two so far. His performances have helped the club stay on top in the Serie A.

On January 4 (Saturday), Napoli yet again put up yet another impressive show beating Fiorentina 3-0. Scott McTominay was one of the goalscorers alongside David Neres and his former Manchester United teammate Romelu Lukaku. Scott McTominay’s another former United teammate, David de Gea, was playing against him at Fiorentina and the latter was on the wrong end of the result at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.

On Saturday evening, after McTominay scored his goal, Napoli’s official X account posted the picture of the footballer with the caption: “Es un elisir. Scott McTominay, mi Blue Label,” translating to “Scotch McTominay, my Blue Label.”

For the unversed, Blue Label is a type of Whiskey which originated in Scotland, McTominay’s home country.

Napoli’s win overshadowed by tragedy

But Napoli’s stunning away 3-0 win over Fiorentina was overshadowed by a massive tragedy. A young fan who had a great relationship with Conte and Napoli team passed away and hence, the Napoli manager didn’t attend the press conference too after the match. The 13-year-old Daniele was ill for quite some time and had recently been in contact with the squad too.

Cristian Stellini, Napoli’s assistant coach took over the press conference duties and said, “We're happy with the victory, but we've received a bad blow by losing a person close to all of Napoli.

“A little child who left us this afternoon, he was ill, we tried to give him moments of joy, he gave us so much strength and energy. The coach didn't feel like coming at this difficult time, our thoughts go to him and his family, as well as to all the children who suffer from these terrible diseases,” he said.
