Southampton’s poor English Premier League record continued in the 2024/25 season as they suffered their 24th defeat of their campaign. Currently, they have two wins and four draws and remain contenders for relegation at the end of the season. In their recent game against Crystal Palace, Southampton took an early lead but failed to hold on in the dying moments, settling for just one point. Following the draw, Southampton’s gaffer expressed frustration during the post-match interview. Speaking to the media, Ivan Juric said the result was frustrating, as he felt his side deserved the win.

Southampton scored in the 20th minute and controlled much of the game. However, Franca equalized from a set-piece in the closing stages, undoing all their efforts. Juric added that after three months of hard work, this was a performance they could be proud of.

"It's frustrating because I think the guys deserved a victory"

"I think we did a very good performance, we controlled the game, didn't risk anything, they score on one set-piece"

"When you work with the guys for three months you know them, today we really did a good game"

While hailing the character of the team members, Juric mentioned that the team can perform better but they also have to keep the intensity high till the last whistle. He said:

"The points is from the character of the team, we know we can play better but sometimes it’s not to perform at the best level but to fight and keep going until the last minute. It’s a very important point"

With this draw, Southampton have 10 points in the Premier League. If they had won the game against the Eagles, they would have the chance to leapfrog Derby County’s worst record in the top flight- 11 points. With just eight games remaining, Southampton will look at least to surpass that record.

Who can potentially get relegated at the end of the season?

With eight games remaining, Southampton are 19 points adrift of safety and are widely expected to be relegated. Leicester City and Ipswich Town currently sit in 19th and 18th place respectively, but both still have a fighting chance to avoid the drop.
