Barcelona continues to enjoy a strong season in both La Liga and the Champions League. They are currently dominating the league and are three points clear of the title challenging Real Madrid. Amidst this success, comparisons have been drawn between current players and former legends who have been key cultural and sporting figures for the club. Recently, Pedri has been receiving praise for being compared to Xavi and Andrés Iniesta. The humble Spanish midfielder, who recently returned from injury, acknowledged that they were his heroes and humbly stated that he still has a long way to go.

Talking to the media, Pedri mentioned that he is amazed by the parallels drawn. He said that they were the heroes he looked up to while growing up alongside the defensive midfield maestro, Sergio Busquets. Pedri also mentioned that they defined the era and he has a long journey left in his career to reach where they are. He said:

It’s amazing to be compared to them. They were my heroes growing up, along with Busquets. But they defined an era and won so many titles. I still have a long way to go to be even a small part of what they were

What did Andres Iniesta have to say about Pedri?

Previously, when Andres Iniesta was asked about Pedri in January, Iniesta opined that the player hopes to be better than him. The rationale behind that was that he hoped the best for the team and Pedri has an inevitable role to play. He also hoped that the Catalans would win the Champions League. Currently,  Barcelona have reached the quarterfinals of the campaign. He said:

Is Pedri like me? I hope he is better than me. We want the best for our team and we wish them the best and that we win titles and glory again, this year we want the Champions League

How has Pedri fared in the ongoing season?

Coming back from the injury, Pedri has featured in 28 La Liga fixtures, in which he has eight G/A to his name. In the Champions League, he has two assists to his name. The player will be pivotal in multiple pursuits of the club come the end of the season.
