One of the most glamorous and flamboyant football leagues across the globe, the English Premier League 2024/25 has already seen multiple things that have taken everyone by surprise. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City failed to win a game in the English top flight in November, whereas few clubs have already sacked their managers. Liverpool is enjoying its new manager bounce under Arne Slot, with him leading the table by 8 points.

Amidst these, few players continue to contribute heavily to the team’s cause. Maybe it will be Bruno Fernandes from Manchester United or Bukayo Saka from Arsenal. They have also fought for the team with desire and passion.

Here is the list of the top 5 players, who can be the contenders for the Player of the Year in the Premier League:

5. Erling Haaland

If it were any other season, Erling Haaland would be at the top of the table in terms of all the stats, including Player of the Year. However, this is the season where Cityzens are struggling to get going, with three defeats in the English top flight. Despite these, the striker counts for a goal per game in the Premier League, having 12 goals to his name.

His aerial dominance as well as instant poaching ability makes him scary for defenders. In the last few games, the player has struggled to retain the goal scoring form but Spaniard will hope to have his Norwegian viking to find the back of the net to keep up with Liverpool in the title race.

4. Chris Wood

The ongoing season saw the previous season's promoted team, Nottingham Forest remaining in the top three after they had an unbeatable start to the season. Till the last game week, they were in the top three and now find themselves in the seventh position, three points from third place. However, the main reason behind their top-four race is the New Zealand striker, Chris Wood.

The player is in the discussion for the Golden Boot as well with eight goals in 12 games in the English top flight. While he finds himself in the third position in terms of goal scored, his ability to outscore is xG. He has an xG of 4.5 but has overachieved by 2.5. Nuno Espirito Santo will hope that the player will be Raul Jimenez of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

3. Bukayo Saka

The English and Arsenal starboy, Bukayo Saka continues to rule the hearts of the Premier League as well as Arsenal fans. The 23-year-old stepped in when the club captain, Martin Odegaard was ruled out due to injury. Saka does not have more goals to show to his name as he has only four goals whereas he has eight assists, underlining his playmaking skills.

With a pass completion rate of 92% in the league, he holds the key for his side’s title aspirations. Arsenal find themselves in the third position and will look to go for the kill with Saka finding his form in the recent games.

2. Cole Palmer

The Chelsea youngster has set the league on fire in the ongoing season. While Chelsea struggled in the previous campaign, Palmer had a season to remember. Neutrals wanted to see if Palmer could take the standards to higher levels. And indeed, the player has succeeded in making Stamford Bridge his home.

In the ongoing season, the left-footed English international has 12 G/A to his name in 12 appearances for Enzo Maresca’s outfit. The player has 5.1 Shot Creating Actions per 90 while also having 0.6 Goal Creating Actions per 90 in the English top flight. The 22-year-old will be one to watch out closely in the ongoing title race with Chelsea following Liverpool and City closely.

1) Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah at Anfield Stadium is ruling the hearts with his both playmaking and goal-scoring ability. Bringing the team out of the brink of defeat to thrashing the opposition, Salah is doing it all for his team.

The fifth-highest scorer for the club, who has the contract running out at the end of the season, looks to move up the ranks of the same. In the ongoing season, he has ten goals and six assists to his name from 12 league fixtures. He is Arne Slot’s gunman at the top, who will play a crucial role in Merseysider’s title challenge.
