Top five goal-scorers for Tottenham Hotspur in Premier League

One of the top clubs in England that is trolled for not winning the title or any trophy in recent years has seen some of the best finishers of the game at White Hart Lane and the newly built Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. From the late sixties to the modern era of Son and Kane, Spurs’ exude a rich history where strikers were beyond the players but the legends who captured the essence of the club. 

The goal-scoring masters just did not find the back of the net but created the memories that echo through North London today. Here are the top five goal-scorers for Tottenham Hotspur in Premier League history:

1) Harry Kane  - 280 goals

The homegrown player, who became the club legend with the humble beginnings of a ball boy, Harry Kane’s journey embodies the dreams of every academy player. Breaking through into the squad in 2011, very few would have thought about the impact the player would have on Tottenham’s history. The prolific goal scorer had 280 goals for his side in 435 fixtures.

His records are just more than numbers. It tells the story of dedication and evolution. One of the best ball carriers of the game, Harry Kane had his best game against Leicester City in 2017 where he scored four goals in a 6-1 win. He was the closest to breaking Alan Shearer’s record until he left for Bayern Munich. Despite departure from the club in 2023, his legacy remains untested. 

2) Jimmy Greaves - 266 goals 

266 goals from 379 games - in the 1960s- these numbers not only speak about the quantity but also the artistry and the ease with which the player would have found the back of the net. One of the finest and greatest goalscorers, Jimmy Greaves achieved this feat with ease. Popularly known as Greavsie, Jimmy Greaves had an immaculate capability to glide past defenders while making the difficult goals look easy.

His finest game came against Manchester United in 1962 where he put four past them in a 5-1 win. His finishing was not just finishing but he could make the time stand still when he was finding the spaces. Jimmy Greaves’ partnership with Alan Gilzean was nothing but a legendary story. 

3) Bobby Smith - 208 goals 

Bobby Smith's era at Tottenham Hotspur coincided with one of the club's most glorious periods. Amassing 208 goals in 317 appearances between 1955 and 1964, Smith was the archetypal center-forward of his generation – powerful, direct, and utterly fearless. His finest moment came in the 1961 FA Cup final victory, part of the historic double-winning season, where his physical presence and clinical finishing terrorized Leicester City's defense.

Smith wasn't just a goalscorer; he was a warrior who epitomized the spirit of Bill Nicholson's revolutionary Spurs side. His partnership with Les Allen became the blueprint for future Tottenham strike partnerships, combining raw power with intelligent movement. Despite playing in an era of uncompromising defenders and heavy pitches, Smith's goal-scoring record stood as a testament to his remarkable consistency and courage.

4) Martin Chivers - 174 goals 

Known as 'Big Chiv' to the Spurs faithful, Martin Chivers brought a unique combination of physical presence and technical finesse to the Tottenham attack. His 174 goals in 367 appearances between 1968 and 1976 only tell part of the story. Standing at 6'2", Chivers possessed a delicate touch that belied his imposing frame.

His crowning moment came in the 1971 League Cup final against Aston Villa, where he scored both goals in a 2-0 victory, including a thunderous 30-yard strike that became his trademark. Chivers' ability to hold up play and bring others into the game revolutionized the role of the target man at Spurs. His goals weren't just important; they were often spectacular, earning him a special place in Tottenham folklore as a striker who could produce moments of magic when they mattered most.

5) Heung-Min Son - 160 goals 

Ever since he arrived in 2015, Heung Min Son has guaranteed two things for the Spurs and Tottenham Hotspur stadium- Goals and South Korean visitors. He illuminated North London with his infectious smile and work ethic while scoring goals for fun. The only active Tottenham Hotspur player on the list, Son has 160 goals in 399 appearances. His most spectacular achievement with the Spurs’ has to be the Golden Boot that won in 2021/22 without a single penalty. His trademark cut-inside-and-curl finishes have been his calling card but his selflessness and versatility have earned and yearned the love of Spurs faithful.
