The January transfer window aka the winter transfer window is getting closer and closer and the clubs are closely watching the footballers who are content or unhappy with their current clubs. Few clubs have put their stars to sale due to disciplinary issues whereas a few clubs are out on finding new players to address their injury woes.
Amidst all these, there is one player who is now attracting a few top clubs across Europe due to his contribution to Real Madrid’s title triumph last season and leading the charge this season. Yes, we are talking about Vinicius Jr, who has become a hearthrob of Madridistas and European giants of faraway lands are eyeing a prized possession.
The Real Madrid forward lost to Manchester City’s midfielder Rodri for the Ballon d’Or battle, drawing attention from all quarters of football fans. Despite the drawback, the Brazilian winger went on to win the best men's player on the planet at the 2024 FIFA Best Awards. He is on the rise since he joined Real Madrid while winning multiple accolades including two Champions League, two FIFA Club World Cups, three La Liga titles and one inter-continental Cup alongside few other domestic titles. Despite Real Madrid getting Kylian Mbappe to Santiago Bernabeu, VInicus Jr continues to get significant attention and respect from the fans.
Alongside these happenings, Vinicius Jr has also achieved one of the big feats in his career, by becoming the joint top-valued player alongside Manchester City’s Erling Haaland with an estimated value of €200 million. He is valued at this high price by transfermarkt.com, a leading platform for player evaluations. The player has two years on his contract and does not look like him leaving anytime soon.
However, when in 2023, the player was asked about swapping his loyalties for any other club than Real Madrid, he mentioned that the “club of his life” is Flamengo. It is the club where he started his career and broke into senior football. Real Madrid secured his services from the Brazilian outfit in a deal worth €45 million. Talking to L’Equipe, he mentioned:
"I think I could stay here my whole career, but the club of my life is Flamengo, Little by little, I discovered this new life, new emotions, a fervour... Madrid is unique. Everyone around the world tells me about this club."
While asked about his family and what he would like to do beyond football, he mentioned that he would stay home whenever possible but do internal activities rather than external ones. He stated”
"I love life here in general, and it's going well for my family too. When my loved ones walk around, they are recognised and they wish us nothing but happiness. And apart from that, I like it. I'm quite a homebody, but we do a lot of activities."
Vinicus Jr has 15 G/A to his name in the Spanish top flight. It remains interesting to see if he can guide his side to a second consecutive title.
