Manchester United legend and one of the most successful strikers in Premier League history, Wayne Rooney has backed the struggling Rasmus Højlund to succeed at Old Trafford. In the game against Arsenal, Højlund was benched by manager Ruben Amorim, only to be brought on later in an attempt to change the result. Despite having two clear chances to score, the Danish striker struggled to register a shot on target. While he has faced criticism from various fans and pundits, Rooney has backed the player.

Talking about the incident from the game, the former Everton player mentioned that Rasmus Højlund made fantastic movements to get to the near post where he received the ball from Toby Collyer. Describing the movement before the ball was played to him, Rooney opined that it was one of the best blocks that stopped him from scoring. He said:

There was one chance where his shot was blocked after he had shown fantastic movement to get to the near post

He goes once, he checks back, goes again, got across Gabriel and got good contact on his shot, so he did everything right. It is only a great block that stops the goal

Expressing faith in the player, Wayne Rooney mentioned that Rasmus Højlund is a good player with a great work rate. However, he emphasized that the player currently needs a bit of luck for the goals to start coming.

I've got faith in him. He's a good player who works hard, which is really important. He needs that bit of luck as well, but once he gets a break, then more goals will follow
