Rooney touched on why Welbeck may not have been up to the mark at Old Trafford, citing injuries that hampered the early part of his career. He said:

Danny's great to play alongside. If I'm completely honest, I'd probably like to still see him here, playing for Manchester United. He's scored goals throughout his career. He had injuries in the early part of his career but he seems to have got over them and he's having a fantastic season

Talking about his Manchester United days when he played alongside Danny Welbeck, Wayne Rooney mentioned that the striker was not always precise, which was one of the reasons why Louis van Gaal decided to let him go.
