According to a recent interview, former Manchester United and Everton player, Wayne Rooney opined that the club should re-open the door to secure the signature of Danny Welbeck, who left the club when Louis van Gaal took over. Rooney praised how Welbeck has progressed throughout his career and why he believes the striker is the right fit for the club. In the interview, Wayne Rooney mentioned that Danny Welbeck is a great player to partner with and sees him as someone who could play for the Red Devils. He also highlighted that Welbeck has consistently scored goals throughout his career. Rooney touched on why Welbeck may not have been up to the mark at Old Trafford, citing injuries that hampered the early part of his career. He said:

Danny's great to play alongside. If I'm completely honest, I'd probably like to still see him here, playing for Manchester United. He's scored goals throughout his career. He had injuries in the early part of his career but he seems to have got over them and he's having a fantastic season

Talking about his Manchester United days when he played alongside Danny Welbeck, Wayne Rooney mentioned that the striker was not always precise, which was one of the reasons why Louis van Gaal decided to let him go. However, Rooney also discussed why Welbeck could be the right fit for the club now, highlighting his ability to adapt to the style that Ruben Amorim is employing. He emphasized that the notion of Welbeck not being ready for Manchester United is an absolute myth. He said:

Danny wasn’t precise in his game back then

So he just let him go, just didn’t fancy him at all. “But he’s actually perfect for how Man Utd should play: threatening space in behind, playing off front players… And this idea he’s not good enough for Manchester United is absolutely rubbish

What is the future of Danny Welbeck?

Danny Welbeck’s current contract is set to expire next June, and the 34-year-old is likely to attract the attention of multiple clubs in need of an experienced striker. It will be interesting to see if the Seagulls can manage to hold onto him.
