Manchester United succumbed to their 10th loss in the ongoing Premier League season with a loss at the hands of Brighton on Sunday (January 19). After the defeat, United manager Ruben Amorim was livid and slammed all the underperforming players. It was the fourth loss in six home games this season under Amorim for Manchester United. At the same time, the club has also lost six out of their first 12 home games in a season for the first time since the 1893-94 season.
For the unversed, the Red Devils went down 1-3 to Brighton playing poor football right through. They conceded a goal in the fifth minute of the clash but Bruno Fernandes levelled, scoring from the spot in the 23rd minute. However, the Reds conceded two more goals in the second half, eventually, losing the game.
They came into this encounter on the back of three losses out of their previous four home games, succumbing to Newcastle, Bournemouth, and Nottingham Forest. It took a 12-minute hat-trick from Amad Diallo to prevent them losing at home against the bottom-placed Southampton, last week.
After the loss, an expectedly livid Amorim called the team the 'worst in the history of the club'.
“I am not naïve. We are the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United. We have to acknowledge that and change that."
“In 10 games in the Premier League, we won three, I know that. Imagine this for a fan of Man United, imagine this for me. You are getting a new coach who is losing more than the last coach. Imagine that. We need to survive this moment. I know that,” Amorim said.
Manchester United on cusp of getting relegated
Meanwhile, Manchester United will have to up their game desperately to not get relegated from the Premier League. They are currently in the 13th position with 26 points after 22 matches, garnering just seven wins. For the unversed, the teams in the last three positions get relegated to the EFL Championship every season and the Red Devils must make sure they don’t slip beyond 17th place by the end of the season.
