Why will Lionel Messi not feature in the World Cup qualifiers for Argentina?
Argentina faced a shock before they were due to face Uruguay in the World Cup qualifiers on March 22. Their star forward, Lionel Messi, who played a pivotal role in securing their victory in the previous World Cup, will not be available for the set of fixtures during the current international break. According to the official statement released by Inter Miami CF, Messi underwent an MRI after feeling discomfort in his adductor following the fixture against Atlanta United.
Based on the scan results, the player has sustained a low-grade injury to his adductor muscle, which keeps him out of competition. In the Eastern Conference, Inter Miami currently stands at the top of the table with three wins and a draw.
Messi underwent an MRI this morning to assess the extent of the discomfort in his adductor region, which he experienced during last night's match against Atlanta United. The examination's findings confirmed the presence of a low-grade injury in the adductor muscle. His clinical progress and response to treatment will determine his availability for competition
Taking to Instagram to express his grief about not being able to be a part of the national team, he mentioned that he feels sad about missing out on such special games against their arch-rivals. He also stated that he would support and cheer from the sidelines.
It's a shame to miss these special games with the Argentinian national team against Brazil and Uruguay. Like always, I wanted to be there but at the last minute an injury that isn't that important forced me to stop for a while before returning to play kept me out. But I will be supporting and cheering from here like a fan. Let's go Argentina!
What next for Argentina in the World Cup qualifiers?
Argentina find themselves at the top of the table having played 12 games and 25 points. They are on their course to qualify for the quadrennial competition. They will play Uruguay and their arch-rivals Brazil in the current international break before playing Chile at the end of the season.
