According to an official statement released by Manchester City Football Club, Norwegian striker Erling Haaland is expected to participate in the upcoming summer FIFA Club World Cup following his injury. Haaland had sustained an injury during an FA Cup fixture, which initially raised concerns about him being sidelined for the rest of the season. The statement read:

The expectation is that Erling will be fit in time to play a further part in the remainder of this season, including this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup

In the game against AFC Bournemouth, Erling Haaland crashed into the hoarding in the second half. The player picked himself up and went on pressing but sooner he held his hand up towards the bench to make the substitution. Post the game, Manchester City put out a statement that the player has suffered an injury to his left ankle, and based on the initial tests, the club will now seek specialist consultation to understand the extent of the injury. The club also wished a speedy recovery for the player. The statement read:

Manchester City FC can confirm that Erling Haaland has suffered an injury to his left ankle. The Norwegian striker sustained the injury during Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final victory away at AFC Bournemouth. Erling underwent initial tests in Manchester on Monday morning and will now seek specialist consultation to confirm the full extent of the injury. Assessment remains ongoing to ascertain a full prognosis.

Who are the attacking options left for Manchester City after the injury to Erling Haaland?

While Manchester City have struggled this season, Erling Haaland has been phenomenal in front of goal. Despite not having astronomical numbers, the Norwegian striker has 21 goals in the English Premier League. In the Champions League, the player had eight goals in the nine games before they bowed out of the competition.

The services of the player will be missed heavily and can have a big blow to their Champions League hopes. In the absence of Haaland, the club might look at their bench which consists of Omar Marmoush and Jack Grealish to fill in the role with an adjustment to their formation.
