Manchester United looked to get back on track as they secured a draw against Everton, followed by a strong performance against Ipswich Town. However, their progress was also dealt with a blow as their new signing Patrick Dorgu was handed a red card in the Premier League fixture against Ipswich Town. While attempting a tackle, he won the ball but made a dangerous challenge on Omari Hutchison, which was reviewed by VAR and resulted in a red card. As it was a straight red, Dorgu will be unavailable for three games.

Dorgu, the new signing from Lecce in a deal worth £29.2 million, started his Manchester United career with a defeat against Tottenham Hotspur but followed up with a draw against Everton and a win against Ipswich Town. However, he will be unavailable for the FA Cup match against Fulham and the Premier League games against Arsenal and Leicester City. The ban does not apply to European competitions, so he will be available for the Europa League Round of 16 against Real Sociedad.

Talking about the foul committed by Patrick Dorgu and also the miscommunication that he had with Andre Onana leading to the first goal, Ruben Amorim said:

The first situation was a misunderstanding, the way they connect each other. “Then the sending off, the important thing is that I really know Dorgu quite well. He doesn’t want to harm anybody and that is important for me.

Who will replace Patrick Dorgu?

In the absence of Patrick Dorgu, Manchester United and Ruben Amorim will be forced to move Diogo Dalot to the left-back position while playing Noussar Mazroui to the right flank in the wingback position. Currently, there are no alternatives in those positions as Luke Shaw is ruled out till the end of March whereas the stop-gap solution can be Victor Lindelof if needed.

What next for Manchester United?

Manchester United will play Fulham in the FA Cup fixture in the fifth round of the competition, followed by second-placed Arsenal and Leicester City in the Premier League before going on an international break for a fortnight. They will also play Real Sociedad in between the Premier League fixtures and will look to advance to the next rounds.
