Everything you need to know about Australian F1 star Jack Doohan

Jack Doohan, the son of motorcycle legend Mick Doohan, was born in January 2003. He began his single-seater career after success in karting. Progressing through Formula 4, Formula 3, and Formula 2, Doohan joined the Alpine Academy in 2022. He served as Alpine's reserve driver in 2023 and 2024, eventually making his Formula One debut replacing Esteban Ocon at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. For the 2025 season, the 22-year-old Australian was promoted to a full-time race seat with Alpine alongside Pierre Gasly.

A challenging rookie season

Doohan's rookie season has presented its challenges. Despite showing flashes of his brilliant pace, he has failed to score his first Formula One championship point in the opening five races of 2025.  He has also suffered accidents on track, including crashes in Australia and Japan, which have led to scrutiny over his status within the team. 

Future scrutiny 

Recent reports suggest that Alpine have given Doohan a "grace period" until the summer break to demonstrate his abilities. While Alpine advisor Flavio Briatore has reportedly shown interest in reserve driver Franco Colapinto, team principal Oliver Oakes has publicly expressed his support for Doohan, stressing the importance of giving him time to develop and adapt to Formula 1. 

An Incredible determination

Adding another layer to the situation is a significant €10 million sponsorship deal that Doohan reportedly brings to Alpine, which could be a key factor in securing his future with the team. Doohan himself is focused on improving his performance, particularly his qualifying speed. He has acknowledged Alpine's efforts in reducing external pressure and is determined to take advantage of his inherent speed. Although his future after the summer remains uncertain, the upcoming races provide a vital opportunity for Doohan to prove his ability and cement his place within the Alpine Formula 1 team.
