All About The Olympic Games 2024 Closing Ceremony
The 2024 Paris Olympics will conclude on August 12, wrapping up three weeks of thrilling and memorable events. The Games began with a spectacular outdoor opening ceremony on July 26, set against the iconic Eiffel Tower. As tradition resumes, the closing ceremony, titled ‘Records,’ will take place indoors at the Stade de France stadium and promises to be a glamorous finale to this year’s Olympics.
For the closing ceremony, India has chosen shooter Manu Bhaker and hockey goalkeeper PR Sreejesh as its flag bearers. Manu Bhaker made history by winning two medals at the Paris Olympics. The 22-year-old secured bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event and, alongside Sarabjot Singh, clinched another bronze in the mixed team event. She is the first Indian woman to achieve this feat in a single Olympics.
PR Sreejesh played a crucial role in India’s hockey campaign, delivering standout performances with key saves against Australia and Great Britain, helping India secure a bronze medal. This Olympics marked his final appearance with the Indian men’s hockey team. Although Neeraj Chopra, who won silver in the javelin throw, was also considered as a flag bearer, he recommended Sreejesh’s name to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) due to Sreejesh's upcoming retirement.
The closing ceremony is set to start at 9 pm local time on August 11 (12:30 am IST on August 12). Indian viewers can stream the event on the Viacom18 network, including platforms such as the Jio Cinema website, JioCinema app, and Sports18 television channel.
India's Medal Tally At The Paris Olympics 2024
The 2024 Paris Olympics has concluded, with India finishing 71st in the overall medal tally, a notable drop from their 48th position in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. India earned a total of six medals in Paris—one silver and five bronze—compared to seven medals, including one gold, two silver, and four bronze, at Tokyo. The Indian team's aspirations of reaching double digits in the medal tally were hampered by multiple fourth-place finishes and the disappointing disqualification of Vinesh Phogat from her gold medal bout.
India's campaign at the Paris Games began with a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event, achieved by shooter Manu Bhaker, who overcame the issues she faced with her pistol at Tokyo. Manu continued to shine by securing another bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed team event alongside Sarabjot Singh, defeating South Korea. She became the first Indian athlete to win two medals at a single Olympic Games since independence.
India's third medal came from shooter Swapnil Kusale, who made history as the first Indian to win a bronze in the men's 50m rifle three-position event. The hockey team added a fourth medal by clinching bronze with a 2-1 victory over Spain, marking India's 13th Olympic medal in hockey.
Neeraj Chopra, although unable to defend his gold medal from Tokyo, earned a silver in the men’s javelin throw, securing India’s fifth medal. The final medal of the Games was won by 21-year-old Aman Sehrawat, who claimed bronze in the men’s 57kg freestyle wrestling, becoming the youngest Indian to win an Olympic medal.

Neeraj Chopra Wins Silver Medal At The Olympic Games 2024
Neeraj Chopra claimed the silver medal in the javelin throw at the Paris 2024 Olympics with a season-best throw of 89.45 meters at the Stade de France on Thursday. As the defending champion, Neeraj was aiming to retain his title but was surpassed by Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who set an Olympic record with a remarkable 92.97 meters. Nadeem’s set also included a 91.79-meter throw, securing Pakistan’s first-ever individual gold medal at the Olympics. Grenada’s Anderson Peters took bronze with a throw of 88.54 meters.
Neeraj's silver medal throw of 89.45 meters was his only clean attempt in the competition. This result brings India’s total medal count for the Paris Olympics to five, including four bronze medals won by shooters Manu Bhaker and Swapnil Kusale, and the men’s hockey team. Earlier in the Games, Neeraj had qualified for the javelin final with an 89.34-meter throw in Group B, marking his best throw at a global championship and the second-best of his career, after 89.94 meters at the Stockholm Diamond League. His qualification throw was the top mark of the round and achieved on his first attempt.

Men's Hockey Team Wins 4th Bronze Medal For India In The Summer Olympics 2024
The Indian men’s hockey team achieved a historic milestone at the Paris 2024 Olympics by winning back-to-back medals for the first time since 1972. They clinched the bronze medal with a 2-1 victory over Spain in the match held at Yves de Manoir Stadium on Thursday. This marks the first time the team has secured consecutive Olympic medals since their bronze finishes at the 1968 Mexico City Games and the 1972 Munich Games. Their previous medal win was at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where they also earned bronze after a dramatic 5-4 win over Germany, despite a semifinal loss to Belgium. At the 2024 Olympics, India fell short in the semifinals, losing 2-3 to Germany on August 6. This defeat ended their quest for their first hockey gold medal since 1980. Despite the setback, the team’s strong performance throughout the tournament and their subsequent bronze medal victory highlight a significant resurgence in Indian hockey on the global stage.
A feat that will be cherished for generations to come!

At the Paris Olympics 2024 on Wednesday, India's Antim Panghal was defeated 10-0 (victory by technical superiority) by Turkey’s Zeynep Yetgil in the Round of 16 of the women’s 53kg freestyle wrestling event. Earlier in the tournament, India's Vinesh Phogat had reached the final in the women’s 50kg freestyle category. However, Phogat's Olympic campaign came to an abrupt end when she was disqualified for being slightly over the weight limit by just over 100 grams, which occurred just before her gold medal bout.

Vinesh Phogat Shockingly Disqualified from Gold Medal Match At Paris Olympics 2024
In a dramatic turn of events, Vinesh Phogat has been disqualified from the Paris Olympics on the day of her final match in wrestling. Phogat had successfully advanced to the finals of the women’s 50 kg category on Tuesday, having defeated Japan’s Yu Sasaki in the 1/8 qualifiers and then Cuba’s Yusneylys Guzman with a dominant 5-0 score in the semifinals. This achievement made her the first Indian woman wrestler to reach an Olympic final.
The final bout was set for Wednesday, with Phogat widely regarded as a strong contender for the gold medal. However, on the morning of the final, she was found to be 100 grams overweight, leading to her disqualification from the tournament. This unexpected development not only ends her Olympic journey but also highlights the strict adherence to weight regulations in competitive wrestling.
