With the Paris Olympics starting this weekend, the athletes have started arriving in the French capital. To accommodate athletes from around the world, the traditional Olympic Village has been built where they will reside and relax during the Paris Olympics and Paralympic Games. Indian athletes are preparing hard to give their best at the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024, scheduled from July 26 to August 11. A total of 117 athletes have qualified to participate in 14 sporting events at the quadrennial multi-sport event in Paris. The Indian 2024 Olympics athletes are a blend of youth and experience. India begins their campaign on July 25, a day before the opening ceremony in Paris, with the individual archery rounds. However, the first medal event will start on Saturday, July 27, with the 10m air rifle event. Here's a look at the Paris Olympics 2024 athletes' village.

1. Where is the Paris Olympics 2024 Athletes' Village

The Paris Olympics 2024 Athletes' Village, which will be the main hub for athletes and their teams starting on July 18, is located in the Seine-Saint-Denis department, encompassing Saint-Denis, Saint-Ouen, and L’Île-Saint-Denis. It is ready to host more than 200 Olympic and nearly 180 Paralympic delegations, presenting a diverse array of countries, cultures, and sports. At the heart of the village lies the Main Dining Hall in Cité du Cinéma, capable of seating 3,200 diners and catering to the nutritional needs of elite athletes with a variety of dietary preferences. Additionally, a separate 600-seat global cuisine restaurant and food trucks will offer additional dining choices. A dedicated team of 1,000 employees will prepare and serve up to 40,000 meals daily.

2. What features does the Paris Olympics 2024 Athletes' Village have?

The Paris Olympics 2024 Athletes' Village comprises 2,800 apartments designed to house four to eight athletes each, complete with shared bathrooms and communal living areas. With 345,000 pieces of furniture installed, the accommodations are tailored for utmost comfort. The athletes will use fully recyclable cardboard beds during the Paris Olympics 2024. The mattress in use has three different modules that allow athletes to choose how firm they want it to be and extend it to fit their height. The recycled beds were also used during the Tokyo Games. After the sporting events conclude, all furniture will be repurposed, donated, or recycled. Cleaning services will be offered every other day, and ten resident centres, three of which will be open 24/7, will provide support and information for the athletes.

3. Amenities and Security at the Paris Olympics 2024 Athletes' Village

The Village Club provides an extensive 800-square-meter entertainment area for relaxation. It features a Disconnection Bubble with massage chairs, a Play Zone filled with arcade games, and a Social Zone complete with large screens and a main bar. A Polyclinic will offer a variety of medical services, including emergency care and access to a pharmacy. Security is the top most priority, with restricted access and multiple security screening points. The Village Plaza, the only area accessible to accredited visitors and media, will include a supermarket, beauty salon, family area, and a large screen for event viewing. Transportation within the village will consist of a fleet of electric vehicles, bicycles, and a specially designed Accessible People Mover (APM) from Toyota to promote inclusive mobility.

4. India's complete schedule for the 2024 Olympic Games

India begins their campaign on July 25, a day before the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics. On that day, both men and women archers will compete in their respective ranking rounds. There will be a day's gap before the next event. India's badminton, boxing, hockey, rowing, shooting, table tennis, and tennis teams will compete on Saturday, July 27. India's 2024 Olympics schedule concludes with women's wrestling events, where the athletes will vie for a medal in the final rounds.
