Athletics is one of the oldest sports on record, having been competed in the very first ancient Olympic Games. The world's top athletes will gather at the Paris 2024 Olympics (Jul 26-Aug 11, 2024). Athletics at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris are scheduled to run from August 1 to August 11. They will feature 48 medal events across major events: track and field, road running, and racewalking. Four venues will be used: Pont d'Iéna for race walking, Hôtel de Ville and Les Invalides for the start and end points of the marathon races, and Stade de France for the track and field events. The 2024 Summer Olympic Games will feature identical medal events for men and women, the first instance in Olympic history. The Marathon Race Walking Mixed Relay through a Marathon course will be contested for the first time at these Games, replacing the men's 50-kilometre race walk in the quest for gender equality. Athletics comprises various running, jumping, throwing, walking, and combined events. Due to its many categories and disciplines, athletics involves the most participants in a single sport at the Olympic Games.
The track programme includes sprints, middle-distance and long-distance events, hurdles, steeplechase races, and relays for men and women. These events take place on the 400m oval track in the Olympic stadium. The qualification window for athletics events in Paris 2024 ended on June 30. However, World Athletics officially confirmed Tuesday's final Road to Paris 2024 standings. Athletes could obtain Paris 2024 quotas for their country by breaching the entry standard for their respective events or finishing within the cut-off Road to Paris rankings after the qualification window ended.
