Thomas Bach highlighted the increase in global viewership and global engagement anticipated by the end of the 2024 Summer Olympic games, scheduled from July 25 to August 11, predicting that half of the world's eight billion population would either tune in via app or TV or connect via social network. Leading up to the second week of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, Viacom18, the official Indian broadcaster of the Olympics, estimated that about 120 million viewers would watch the Olympic games on their television network Sports18. In the USA, NBC's streaming platform Peacock had already exceeded the total viewership of both the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and 2022 Beijing Olympics combined within just three days of the ongoing edition. According to the U.S. broadcasters NCUInternational, the six-day Total Audience Delivery averaged 33.0 million viewers across both live Paris and U.S. time slots, marking a 76% increase from Tokyo’s 18.8 million.

Similarly, the European rights holder, Warner Brothers Discovery reported surpassing the total unique streaming viewers for Tokyo within the first two days of the Summer Olympic games. In Japan, a consortium of broadcasters reported that 82.7% of the total Japanese audience had tuned in within the first week of the games. Additionally, social media engagement for the Paris Olympics 2024 has skyrocketed, with more than 8.5 billion interactions recorded so far, showing a 40% increase over the entire 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
