Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh secured India's second medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, clinching bronze in the 10m mixed team air pistol event on Tuesday, July 30. The duo, who advanced to the bronze medal match on Monday, triumphed over South Korea with a score of 16-10, boosting India's medal tally in shooting at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. Manu Bhaker has scripted history as the first Indian post-Independence era to win two medals at the same Olympics. The last one for India was Norman Pritchard in 1900 which was pre-independence. Her father anticipated another medal after her bronze medal in the 10m air pistol final a couple of days ago on Sunday. In this blog, we take a look at the Indian athletes who have won two individual medals over the years in the Olympics.
Paris Olympics 2024: A look at India's multiple individual medallists over the years in Olympics
1. Manu Bhaker: 2 Bronze Medals (Paris Olympics 2024)
Indian Olympic history has been scripted right in front of our eyes as Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh become the first Indian pair to win a medal in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team Event as they destroy the Korean pair in the Bronze Medal Match. Manu Bhaker has scripted history as the first Indian post-Independence era to win two medals at the same Olympics. She is also the third individual athlete from India to win two medals. Talking about the Paris Olympics 2024 Bronze medal match, India was just one set away from clinching the bronze medal as the score stood at 14-6. Despite the fact that consecutive 10.8s from Ye Jin Oh helped Korea reduce the deficit with the Indians missing the 10-mark on the first of them, poor shots from both the Koreans meant that even one decent shot from the Indian pair would grab the Bronze and Sarabjot Singh responded in style with a 10.2. Manu Bhaker scored a poor last shot with 9.4, but it was more than enough for the Indian pair to win the Bronze medal in the 2024 Summer Olympic Games.
Extremely humbled by the support and wishes that have been pouring in. This is something that I've always dreamt of. Proud to perform at the biggest stage for my country 🇮🇳 ❤️ pic.twitter.com/8U6sHOLulR

In the last shot, India scored 19.6 while the Koreans choked, shooting only a 9.5 and a 9.0, totalling 18.5. Earlier, Manu Bhaker displayed extreme calm and composure to bury the ghosts of the Tokyo Olympics and got India off the mark at the Paris Olympics 2024 with a historic bronze medal in the women's 10m air pistol event on Sunday. The 22-year-old shooter became the first Indian woman to win a medal in Gun shooting games at the Summer Olympic Games, ending a 12-year wait for an Olympic medal in shooting. The last time India won Olympic medals in shooting was at the London edition in 2012 when 10m air rifle shooter Gagan Narang clinched the bronze medal and rapid-fire pistol shooter Vijay Kumar won the silver medal. With Manu Bhaker to play one more event as per the Olympic India schedule, one thing is for sure. She is part of an elite list of India's multiple individual medallists over the years in the Olympics.

2. PV Sindhu: 1 Silver Medal (Rio Olympics 2016) and 1 Bronze Medal (Tokyo Olympics 2020)
PV Sindhu was the second individual athlete from India and the only Indian badminton player to win two consecutive medals at the Olympic Games. Her Olympic journey started in Rio 2016 when she endured a tough knockout round. She was the first woman from her country to qualify for the finals. Sindhu faced the World No. 1 and two-time world champion, Carolina Marin, in the final, but she failed to defeat her. PV Sindhu's silver medal was an immense achievement for India. Sindhu lived up to all the expectations at the Tokyo Olympics as well. On her way to the historic bronze, PV Sindhu did not drop a single game before the semi-finals. If she wins a medal in the Paris Olympics 2024, PV Sindhu will become India's most successful Olympian of all time.

3. Sushil Kumar: 1 Bronze Medal (Beijing Olympics 2008) and 1 Silver Medal (London Olympics 2012)
Star India Wrestler Sushil Kumar is our first-ever two-time Olympic medallist in an individual event. Talking about India Olympics medals, Sushil clinched his bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics 2008 which eventually put Indian wrestling on the world map as many more wrestlers picked up the sport since then. What's more interesting is that Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar improved his own achievement, securing a first-ever silver medal for an Indian in wrestling at the 2012 London Olympics. Unfortunately, Sushil Kumar's career came to a tragic end as he was found involved in the murder of junior wrestler Sagar Dhankar in 2021 and continues to serve his jail term in Delhi's Tihar Jail. Fast forward at the Paris Olympics 2024, Indian wrestlers have been performing poorly.
